The Jenga Staircase
The Jenga Staircase connects the bridge to the ground level. The staircase blocks move in/out/left/right - like the Jenga game, changing the shape of the staircase every few weeks. This reflects the ephemeral characteristic of nature. The staircase is a communal area that promotes chilling out with other students, connecting two spaces.

The bridge lowers softly to touch the ground of the lower campus. People walk underneath the bridge to continue to the roundhouse and squarehouse. The bridge allows for the existing trees to shoot through and expand themselves at the bridge height, giving students access to climb the branches of the trees and escape to rest their minds and bodies. The bridge doesn't have walls to allow for students to roam the edges of the bridge, hang their feet off or climb, to produce a sense of freedom, something that being surrounded by nature gives us a sense of.
This image captures the greenery used along the edges above the road. The thick use of vegetation is used for privacy between road passengers and the bridge users. It is also a safety measure as the vegetation prevents people sitting on the edge of the bridge above the road.
This is one of 3 studio spaces. The studio seating is inbuilt and arcs to centre the students attention to the front of the room; the tutor or lecturer. This organic form reduces distractions and boosts productivity, and also encourages group discussions. All studios have some sort of view or touch of vegetation. No studio is fully enclosed; they are sheltered and open.
This image conveys 1 of 2 lab rooms, the 'Jenga staircase' and the back of the amphitheatre.
The 'Jenga staircase' is one of the moving forms of architecture. It connects the ground level to the bridge in a fun and always changing way. The blocks that form the staircase moves in/out/left/right every so weeks to change the space, alike how nature is ephemeral.
The curved walls replicate the curves of the surrounding nature. The existing large trees of the site stem through and expand their branches above the bridge. The school is therefore in the canopy of the trees allowing closer connection to nature.
This image conveys how the roof's form collapses to the bridge height where the road passes underneath. This is to reduce the noise pollution of the road traffic. The roof's form encloses in its middle and expands at the entrances to make the space welcoming for all students of UNSW to use to cross the road.
